World Mental Health Month: Art Therapy

Art Therapy on Creating a Balance for Mental Well-being

With Katie Flowers

Meeting the demands of daily life can often leave us feeling overwhelmed and out of balance. Every day calls for creativity in how we rearrange our lives around relationships, work, and health whilst still finding ways to grow. We have all been working hard to find safety and connection this year, often creating new landscapes at home to accommodate school, work, and family life and all the emotions that come with that. We have all learned how vital it is to be adaptable.

Experiencing balance in life IS attainable. Finding balance doesn’t mean becoming a different person, it simply means listening to the needs of your whole self and responding with kindness. Noting and nurturing all aspects of your life to encourage a more balanced and happy existence.

Come and enjoy an evening of exploring balance through artmaking with Art Therapist Katie Flowers at the Wild at Art Studio. This event is for adults 16 and above.

Date: Thursday, 18 November 2021

Time: 7:00 - 8:30 pm

Venue: Wild at Art Studio, 1F, Front Portion 2, 4 Elgin Street, Central, Hong Kong.

Donation fee: 100HKD

Teenager & Youth Support Group Meeting

The OCD and Anxiety support group meetings were set up to provide teenage sufferers with a platform where they can voice and share their fears, worries and anxiety in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment. Feelings of depression, isolation, helplessness and loneliness are associated with these disorders and people often suffer in silence because of the huge stigma associated with mental health in Asia. The formation of the group has created a community of individuals suffering from OCD , AD and Depression who encourage, support and assist each other with the challenges that they face and continuously embrace new members to share and learn from. The group is structured to include discussions, reflections and opportunities to learn and practice different proven methods to reduce anxiety as a group.  It is not compulsory for one to share at meetings if they do not feel comfortable. There is a donation fee of 50HKD to ensure commitment of participants.

The support group is open to English speaking teenagers &. youth (aged 15 - 21 yrs old) who struggle with high levels of stress, intrusive thoughts, constant worries and who feel stuck in negative patterns of thinking.

Please note that the OCD and Anxiety support group does not counsel or diagnose mental health disorders. It offers support in terms of sharing experiences, listening, providing psychoeducation and learning and applying a range of coping skills.

  • More about the Instructor: Hersha has devoted 20 years of her life bringing well-being to disadvantaged communities. The hardest part is convincing people to believe in themselves enough to actively participate in their own well-being. In Hong Kong, there is a major disparity between the affluent and able-bodied and those living in poverty or with a disability. Our life’s work is clear — bridge the gap and show the world that all people have the fundamental right to be well.
